Operation 1. Begin by placing a small amount of dirt into your gold pan. 2. Completely submerge your pan into a tub of water. 3. Shake the pan underwater to create a soupy mixture. Avoid spilling any dirt out. 4. Tilt the pan slightly, washing water in and out to carry away dirt with the water flow. 5. After some dirt is washed out, level the pan again and shake it to further separate materials. 6. Repeat the process until only the heaviest black sands and gold remain. 7. Swirl water across the black sands and gently tap the edge of your pan to separate the gold from the sand.
